Mission Statement:

(The website for Emerging Music Network has been temporarily forwarded to this page, to reach EMN staff please email info@EmergingMusicNetwork.com)

The mission of The Heather J. Kwiate Foundation is to create positive change in the lives of those impacted by domestic violence, to raise awareness, and to develop sustainable strategies for prevention. The Foundation provides a network that includes access to safe-havens for the abused and their families. By empowering them through emotional support, emergency funding, job skills training, and other educational opportunities we strive to give help and hope to those in need in an effort to End the Silence and STOP the VIOLENCE!

Strength in Numbers

Heather's Voice teams up with Guitars Not Guns for a night of awareness, fundraising, and remembrance of the many people lost due to violence.
Guitars Not Guns Performance
Guitars Not Guns focuses on providing high risk youths with opportunities to immerse themselves in music instead of violent activities. The organization continues
to "get them while they are young" in hopes of empowering children through learning how to perform music. By working with children in this way, we believe that Guitars Not Guns has undoubtedly assisted many families in avoiding the trauma caused by violent crimes. Heather's Voice is proud to be connected to such a pro-active organization.

On June 4, 2011, Guitars Not Guns and Heather's Voice join forces to stop the violence. Please check back often for announcements on performers, raffle prizes, sponsorship opportunities, and several other surprises that will be announced as we get closer to the date.

This is a very important time for Heather's Voice and Guitars Not Guns because we believe in safety and strength in numbers. By teaming up with a legitimate non-profit organization such as Guitars Not Guns, we have just "upped" the numbers of people that share our vision. We now have the Kennesaw State University SIFE Team, the inspiration of  Professor Shannon Ferketish (KSU Leadership Studies), and Guitars Not Guns helping Heather's Voice continue to be heard.

We started working on Heather's Voice officially, on January 31, 2011 by obtaining our domain name and gathering information. It is now less than two months later, and our team has grown exponentially and shows promise of further growth in the very near future .

If you are not involved in helping stop the violence, please set aside some time and help the cause. Check out Guitars Not Guns, contact Heather's Voice, work with a local shelter, buy t-shirts (all proceeds go to projects to stop the violence), become a volunteer with Guitars Not Guns and/or Heather's Voice.
The more people we have, the more people we will reach.

Ask yourself these questions about physical, verbal, and/or mental abuse:
  • What would Heather say?
  • What would Heather do?
  • Are you ever "too busy" to save a life?
  • What WILL you do?
A moment of your time with strengthen the projects and provide safety to those in need.
A moment of your time can change the path of someone's life. What can you do with your "moments?"
Join us and find out what you are capable of, you may be surprised at the difference one person can make.

Mark your calendars for June 4th, 2011 for The Strand in Marietta, GA.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for keeping up with Heather's Voice. It is really great to know that people out there really care about the cause. I know you never met our Heather so it's even sweeter to know that you care so much.
As you know, I have 3 daughters myself. Since Heather's death, I have made sure to talk with my girls about this subject and related ones.
You have great kids and I know they wouldn't hurt a fly, but make sure they know how to avoid becoming a victim. As parents, (at least in my experience before Heather died) we tend to tell our kids to never hurt anyone, but recently I realized, I had never talked to them about what to do if someone hurts them!
It's like letting them drive at 14 without any experience! Dangerous and potentially life threatening.
A lot of thought has come to this project through our family, friends, and even strangers...it's great to see you on here again.
Tell your babies (who are so grown up already) what to do if they get hurt, what signs to look for etc.
I can't say that the work on this has been "fun", but it has been rewarding in the way of watching how fast we are spreading and reaching so many.
I hope to see you and Garland on Tuesday at the launch party! Maybe you can bring your video camera and help us catalog the memories of the first Heather's Voice Foundation event. Please? :)
